This report shows some great insights as to how the Make % from 5-10 feet actually correlates to Total Strokes Gained Putting.

Fast facts from this report include:

-- 5 players are inside the Top 30 in Make % and Bottom 30 in SGP

-- Only 3 players are outside the Top 125 in Make % and still averaging positive Strokes Gained Putting

-- The highest ranked player in Make % but still in the bottom 30 SGP is...  Well, you'll have to join the Patreon page and download the full report to find that out.

Questions That Need Answering

Why did you pick this topic?

I just met a new friend on Instagram that asked a question on my story: "What's the biggest separator on Tour when it comes to putting? 8-12 feet? 3 putt percentage?" I almost typed out 3-putt percentage, but then I realized I knew off the top of my head at least a couple players that debunked that. And then I remembered that I deliver better content than that, so it was time to start digging. What better way to do that than publish some math?

What is a Correlation?

A correlation coefficient measures how variables move together in a straight line pattern. This is scaled between +1 and -1, where a positive number shows some correlaion. The higher the number, the stronger the correlation where +1 is a perfect match. The inverse is when the number is -1 and there is no relationship at all. Nothing like a little bit of math to verify your findings.

So what did you find?

This report definitely was insightful and it is great to look at the names and see some surprises about their short putting compared to their overall performance. The table lists the players in order according to their Make % from 5-10 feet. Another column shows their average Strokes Gained Putting YTD at the time of publication. The notes column annotates any discrepances like big gaps in Make % rank vs. SGP rank or players that somehow are Top 30 from 5-10 feet yet are still floundering
